Dave Eggers’ TED Prize Wish: Once Upon a School

2008 TED Prize winner Dave Eggers just stepped off the TED stage in Monterey, where he has voiced his wish, asking the conference’s attendees — and anyone else who’s in a position to help — to “find a way to directly engage with a public school in your area” and then share the story of their involvement on the OnceUponASchool.org website.

The site went live minutes ago, offering guidelines for partnering with schools and providing a space for receiving people’s pledges and stories of involvement. Many things are needed to make Dave’s inspiring wish a reality: personal engagement by the largest possible number of people, of course, but also very practical things such as funding and web hosting. See an implementation plan and a list of needs here and a discussion board here (TED.com members will have to register anew to participate in the TED Prize discussion board).
