As a retired Teen Living (Home Economics) teacher I watched as Teen Living went from a subject almost everyone took in school for at least one semester to a subject for only children who were not college bound. It is no longer considered important to know what to eat or how to prepare it to be healthy. Now we have college graduates, of all ages, who don’t know what they should eat or how to make nutritious choices in the grocery store, in the restaurants and don’t know how to prepare a healthy meal at home. Thanks to Jamie Oliver and everyone in the movement to change this.
I am 100% with Jamie and I am so thrilled that someone else sees what is going on and makes an effort to help it. It is so sad to see what America has come to with its horrible diet and all the fixation on instant food now and not what it really should be– enjoying a healthy cooked meal and when to splurge and not to. He says it right that you still can care and make a profit which we here are all so worried about doing that we have lost sight on what is right for the people. I hope that his grassroots efforts make a difference in bringing awareness to America about food because it is in dying need of it…no pun intended!
I love Jamie Oliver. I think he’s terrific. Good for him to come to America and help us out. It’s too bad that corporate profits have come before the wellbeing of our fellow humans. I can’t even imagine not knowing how to cook. I need to eat real food because I have really bad allergies to junk food. I feel that God has given me my own dietary laws and punishment for breaking them is swift and certain. My health improved dramatically when I finally got it all figured out. Jamie Oliver deserves 100 TEDPrize awards! Go Jamie!
Great talk. Another thing that would be great is to convince Americans and Canadian to rip their lawn and plant a garden instead. Have more community gardens in the city, have gardens in each school where kids could be thought how to grow food, have a small green house in the winter time and see what can be grown. Teach people about sprouts and bean and brown rice and garbanzo beans…. thank you for doing this for humanity. Gabrielle
I applaud this man and feel his frustration as well as his energy while watching his show. I am one who tries to stay healthy and fit while being married to that just doesn’t “get it” and is not only resistant to suggestion, but tries to backlash with cynical mockery as if its not something THEY need to worry about. Myself and my two children are the only healthy ones in the bunch. I wonder everyday what I could do to help this HUGE epidemic. But the best thing I know we can all do is teach our children what’s good and what is NOT. You GO, Jamie!

I’m on board with Jamie Oliver. I believe in everything he is saying.
