An astonishing performance by El Sistema’s national youth orchestra
After Maestro Abreu gave his inspiring talk and made is world-changing wish, the Teresa Carreño Youth Orchestra performed live via satellite from Caracas, Venezuela. Made up of students from El Sistema, the orchestra wowed the TED audience and we know they will wow you too. Led by Gustavo Dudamel, Music Director Designate of the Los Angeles Philharmonic and product of El Sistema, the orchestra played two pieces – Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 10, 2nd movement and Arturo Márquez’ Danzón No. 2.

W O W..I am speechless yet blown away..it’s like a tornado of music that enters your body and it’s a flurry of notes flying everywhere so fast that you can’t follow it, so you surrender to it. Then all of a sudden you find yourself crying and laughing cuz you can’t believe how amazing it is..how much is going on -so fast..all at once!! The talent and the fact that these are young adults playing and watching them not only play the notes but adding to the flow of it by getting into it is beyond inspiring. You cry for the beauty of the music as well as the talent and what the music itself creates inside you. Thank you for all your hard work, your talent, and most of all, your wish. I add my intentions and prayers that it comes true and it will. Good luck to you all. Much love, Shelley Ferguson
I was truly mesmerized by this beautiful performance. What an inspiration to our youth everywhere that have the desire to produce music of this calibre and quality. I was fascinated and watched it twice, torn between listening to the music and watching the energy flowing from every performer. Tomorrow I am making sure that everyone of my employees take a time out to view and enjoy the entire performance, it was absolutly astonishing in every respect. This will be passed on to my friends to enjoy.
Thank you and I also wish the best for your futures, Gary Korkala
This is the beautiful face of Venezuela………how two men from the same country send two so different messages to the world. this are children from the streets of from very pour level. wile one dictator destroyed the country Maestro Abreu is doing a huge performance and sending a positive and beautiful message. how can influence positive or negative our leaders in the young people. the talent is there waiting to be oriented for good or for wrong. the destiny of our countries is in the adult’s hands. some Venezuelans envy Colombian’s president and we the Colombians envy this wise maestro. this orchestra can compete with any one in the world.
After watching this amazing young man direct the orchestra. I was astonished at the capacity of his talent. I had to get my wife to watch this with me because she is highly into classical music as am I. This performance sent shivers all through my core. I was thrilled with the level of achievement that these youth have arrived at. My congratulations go out to this conductor and the way he inspires the young people to achieve their best.
