Using Digital Media to Spread a Message

From Bonnie on the TED Prize team…

The TED/Demos event held at the Hub in London on Nov. 18th, 2008 was sold out to a crowd of media professionals, academics, non-profit organizers and other interested parties. The TED Prize team, Demos and Alfie Dennen visually presented the results of the XDR-TB Campaign, illustrating the use of digital media and viral outreach, and the impact the Nachtwey images had around the world.

Charlie Tims from Demos also illustrated the unique grassroots techniques he used to garner participation from the public. Opening comments presented by Charlie Leadbeater and Charlie Beckett focused on how new and emerging forms of media are being used as channels to influence public opinion — for better or worse. The contributions were received by a lively and often challenging audience; an exciting debate followed. All in all a stimulating and thought provoking evening.
